Ode to the Sleepover

Posted by The Dragon Lady in

Oh Sleepover, oh Sleepover, You are a cherished thing,
That sends young hearts flying like bird upon the wing,

If someone doth ask why, the reason is apparent-
For "sleep" is just a code-word, to fool the guileless parent.

Instead of sleep there are other, better things that take place-
Such as putting a marker message on some sleeping innocent's face!

Oh, but it is just light-heartedness, or maybe too much candy-
Soda at outrageous hours can sometimes come in handy!

For there are times when sleep indeed doth threaten to occur,
But the mighty sugar rush rushes out to vanquish her!

Axis and Allies, Monopoly, Stratego and Parcheesi,
Intense games such as these can make the strongest hearts turn queasy.

And for the very brave a midnight snack is a delight,
The way all freeze when sound is heard is such a splendid sight!

And then, for fun and relaxation of the mind
Makeovers are just the right way to pass the time!

When games run out, it may just be a blessing in disguise,
For then turns are taken, ghoulish stories to devise!

There's always singing (not too loud!) and chatting in the dark,
That is the last that happens, and it ends the long night's lark,

For one by one the sleepy ones go dropping off like flies,
The last not long before the first hints of a sunrise.

Oh, Sleepover, oh Sleepover, you are the best of things,
Such things as you are the envy of cabbages and kings.

Do trads do anything besides write poetry? Seriously. An outsider viewing this blog would think, "man these trads are a bunch of losers. All they do is laugh at stupid cats and write poems all day long... I'll stay athiest thank you very much."

What Ignacio is trying to say is that poetry, while beautiful and def. a part of trads everywhere, may not appeal to all trads. I for one enjoy all that we have written and accomplished.

As a man, hearing peoples adventures in their daily lives appeals to the more masculine side of me and helps me to keep up the fight each and every day. The occasional heart-rending poem or song helps me to relax and think about life when I'm not out conquering the world. Ig wants us to try and keep a balance with what we write so we will appeal to the masses at large.

Nice work Ro! Don't let your mean older brother stop your creativity! j/k, Ig, j/k

... have you even met Ceci? :P

To Tom:

"The time has come, the walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of Shoes- and Ships- and Sealing-wax,
Of cabbages and kings..."

"Of cabbages and kings"- you can contemplate it for hours.

Tom... it's okay... we still love you... and your poetry...

Ah, yes. Good old Lewis Carroll. It doesn't get much better than Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

No, but poor Ceci doesn't like Poetry. that is soooooo sad, its like being allergic to garlic, or onions; not liking poetry, it makes me sad........ the next thing your going to tell me is, that she has some strange dislike for music.......

My brothers, are doing bad Columbo impersonations behind me...... Any one else seen that show? Well I suppose they're not bad, just creepy........

lol; I remember now, of cabbages and kings, lol I love that poem.

I find Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass creepy.

August 5, 2009 at 3:40 PM

well it was written by a guy who was "high" on Cocaine, so I don't blame you..........

He was?... As far as I know, the story originated one day when he was out boating with Alice Liddell and her two sisters, and she demanded a story; so he began with the White Rabbit scene, and finished the book for her later.
